In this project, we propose the development of synthesis methods for ZnO nanoparticles showing controlled morphologies and sizes. For this, we will use biocompatible polymers and microwave-assisted synthesis routes. We will prepare hybrid ZnO nanoparticles by incorporating model-drugs: 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and Ac-SDKP. 5-FU is a drug with recognized anti-tumor properties, whereas Ac-SDKP is a tetrapeptide endowed with immunomodulatory capabilities able to control the expression of macrophages. In addition to the synthesis and structural characterization of these hybrid nanoparticles, we will investigate their in vitro biological responses by evaluating the expression of specific markers on tumoral immortalized cell lineages.
